Aston Villa have confirmed on their official website that Ahmed Elmohamady has signed a one-year extension with the club.
The 31-year-old signed in 2017 and having helped earn the club promotion to the Premier League, he has now got himself a longer contract with the club.
Elmohamady has played a total of 89 matches for Aston Villa, scoring two goals and assisting 13, as per Transfermarkt.
This includes the full 90 minutes in each of Villa’s opening two Premier League games this campaign, against Tottenham Hotspur and AFC Bournemouth.
Despite being on the losing side, WhoScored named the Egypt international as Man of the Match with a rating of 7.7.
During that game, he completed 92% of his passes, which included five key passes and he also made one dribble.
Defensively, he made one tackle, one clearance and three interceptions throughout the 90 minutes, while also winning two aerial duels.
With so many exciting signings coming to Villa Park, it can be easy to forget about players such as Elmohamady who helped the club reach the Premier League in the first place.
There were some who doubted whether the Egyptian is still cut out for the Premier League, with Stan Collymore being one of them, though the 31-year-old has shown he can continue to make an impact in the top flight.
With Frederic Guilbert for competition, it is unknown how long Elmohamady will be able to keep his starting place, but he can certainly still be an asset for the club as he has proven this season.
