Former Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton believes that John McGinn’s excellent form for Scotland will lift the spirits of players at his club side.
The Villa midfielder has produced two brilliant performances whilst on international duty, scoring one and assisting one against Cyprus before bagging himself a brace against Kazakhstan (Transfermarkt).
Can Aston Villa keep hold of John McGinn long-term?
Hutton thinks that the former Hibernian man will now return to Aston Villa in high spirits and that will have a positive impact on the rest of the squad.
When speaking to Football Insider about whether McGinn’s form would boost Villa’s players behind the scenes, Hutton said: “Absolutely. It’s infectious, he’s infectious. He’s such a good character and good guy to be around, very happy.
“When things weren’t going too well at the start of the Scotland campaign, you could tell he was coming back and he was down about it, especially under Alex McLeish at the very start of it, it was a difficult moment.
“As a player you have ups and downs, especially during your international career, playing for a smaller nation, should we say. I think them winning three games on the bounce, that’s what we needed for a nation to look forward to March.”
Hutton is right, McGinn’s outstanding displays for Scotland can only be a good thing for Aston Villa.
He is one of their star men. Indeed, he has already scored three goals and provided two assists this season (Transfermarkt) and others at the club are likely to look up to him.
He will arrive back in training with bags of confidence, which is likely to then lead to him producing an excellent performance when they play Newcastle United on Monday.
Added to that, as Hutton alludes to, confidence is infectious and could well rub off on the rest of the Villa players meaning that they too perform well against the Magpies.
