Former Aston Villa right back Alan Hutton has urged the club to give Callum O’Hare a chance in the first team soon.
The attacking midfielder is currently on loan at League One side Coventry City, where he has made 29 appearances in the division, scoring three times whilst assisting four goals, per Transfermarkt.
When speaking to Football Insider about the player, who he trained alongside when he was still at the club, Hutton said, “One I’d like to see brought into the squad is Callum O’Hare. He’s went out on loan and he’s done very well, I think a lot of the fans are talking about him and I’d like to see him involved more with the squad.
“I think he deserves a crack at it. He’s done really well, by all accounts they’re trying to keep hold of him and stuff, he’s had goals and assists, he’s the main man now.
“I’ve always known he’s had ability, he’s always been a good player. Maybe people look and his size and stuff and think will he be able to hack it in the Prem?
“I think sometimes when you’re that clever in your movement and your passing, size doesn’t matter. It’s about your brain and technical ability. He’s always been a good player.”
It is hard to disagree with Hutton here, in his performances this season, O’Hare has averaged 1.3 key passes per game and 1.3 shots per game, per WhoScored.
This highlights that he shows an attacking intent and is a big influence for Coventry. It looks like he tries to create goalscoring opportunities and with Jack Grealish potentially leaving in the summer (Birmingham Live), the Villans may be in need of a player like O’Hare to step into his shoes.
With Villa spending £143.19 million in the two transfer windows this season alone, per Transfermarkt, and the club sitting 19th in the Premier League, via BBC Sport, it might be worth looking more to their academy and giving players a chance to show what they can do.
