Aston Villa fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking ahead to a new season under the reigns of new management and new owners with some optimism.
Now, the Birmingham Mail reports that the Villans are set to sign Hellas Verona stopper, Pierluigi Gollini, as they look to bolster their squad ahead of a gruelling 46 game league season in England’s second tier competition.
New boss Roberto Di Matteo met with the 21-year-old goalkeeper over the weekend and it is thought that the player has agreed personal terms with the Midlands club.
The Italy-under 20 international is set to become Roberto Di Matteo number one between the sticks, with current custodian Brad Guzan linked with a move out of the club.
Gollini made is his mark with the Manchester United academy before choosing to move back to home country Italy in 2014.
Despite making 26 appearances for Verona last season, the youngster was unable to prevent the club from falling through the trap door into Italy’s Serie B competition.
Will Aston Villa go up at the first time of asking?
