Aston Villa failed to secure all three points against Preston North End yesterday as they were held to a draw at Deepdale.
The Villains will need to improve if they are to stand any chance of securing a play-off spot, as the teams above them are making great strides. Although, it looks as if the Midlands side are making moves on the transfer front, as according to The Sunday Mirror (30/12; page 73) (via HITC) Aston Villa are close to signing Cheick Doukoure.
It’s believed that Aston Villa are close to completing the signing of Doukoure on loan, with the Levante midfielder’s agent arriving in Birmingham at the weekend.
Dean Smith is looking to make moves in the January transfer window and Doukoure could turn out to be one of his next signings, with a defensive midfielder being required due to Glenn Whelan’s age and a lack of cover.
Aston Villa aren’t messing around in the January transfer window as they’ve already agreed a deal to sign Lovre Kalinic, so Doukoure may be the next man to make his way to Villa Park.
The likes of Glenn Whelan and Mile Jedinak are getting on with age and will struggle to feature regularly, so bringing in another defensive-minded midfielder will definitely help things.
