Aston Villa confirm injury blow ahead of Wolves clash later today

Aston Villa fans here in the Tavern are confident ahead of today’s clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers, with their unbeaten streak now standing at three games after victory over Sunderland in their last encounter.

Steve Bruce has worked wonders at Villa Park in the current campaign after turning early-season woes into an automatic promotion push, with Aston Villa now only four points off Cardiff City in second place. Although, they received a huge blow ahead of today’s all-important Championship encounter, as according to an update provided by Aston Villa’s official Twitter account, Glenn Whelan is set to miss the Wolves clash with a calf injury.

The midfielder suffered a calf injury in their 3-0 win over Sunderland on Tuesday evening, with the Aston Villa boss admitting that he’s not expecting positive results from the scans planned for Whelan.

However, Steve Bruce will now have to complete his final match preparations for the league leaders without the Republic of Ireland international, with Mile Jedinak expected to come into the starting XI as the 34-year-old’s replacement. Indeed, many of our local residents are now fearing the worst as their side heads into today’s encounter looking slightly worse for wear, with the likes of Jack Grealish and Albert Adomah only recently returning from injury.

Landlord’s Verdict:

This is a huge to blow to Aston Villa’s hopes of beating the league leaders, after witnessing the incredible performance produced by Whelan at the Stadium of Light during the week. However, Steve Bruce will do his best to produce a result with the players he has at his disposal, with the experienced Mile Jedinak slotting right into the middle of midfield.
