Aston Villa travel to Sheffield United needing a response after a heavy defeat at the hands of Leicester City.
The 4-1 destruction relegated the Villans to 17th in the Premier League table, only ahead of the bottom three on goal difference.
Should Aston Villa go all out for Pedro in January?
December presents a huge opportunity for Dean Smith’s men to move away from danger, as they play all of the teams below them in the table after the trip to Bramall Lane.
Given their collapse against the Foxes, how will they lineup?
Tom Heaton can possibly expect to see two changes in front of him for the trip to take on Chris Wilder’s side. Ahmed Elmohamady’s horror show against Leicester drew criticism from his own fans, so he is very likely to be dropped if Smith was also left unimpressed. Frederic Guilbert could be restored, with Matt Targett starting on the left after recovering from a minor knock. Injury to Tyrone Mings could mean a recall for Bjorn Engels alongside Ezri Konsa in defence.
In midfield, Douglas Luiz could make way for Conor Hourihane as Villa search for more creativity. The Ireland international has scored five and assisted two this season, and his influence could be key in bringing the best out of Wesley, who is badly struggling for form. John McGinn and Marvelous Nakamba may start in midfield alongside him.
Anwar El Ghazi has started 12 of Villa’s 16 league games this season, while captain Jack Grealish should continue on the left. Wesley looks likely to continue through the middle, despite not scoring since October. Having started all of the Villans’ Premier League fixtures so far, he is a player Smith obviously trusts.
