Dean Smith is expected to be active in his first transfer window in charge of Aston Villa.
The Villans have a number of concerns in several positions in the side and it appears the manager could turn to one of his former clubs to try and solve one particular issue.
It is being claimed that the 27-year-old could be the subject of a January bid from Aston Villa as he enters the final 18 months of his contract and could be tempted to reunite with his former boss.
Brentford will look to do all they can to keep their star man at Griffin Park, which could make a move difficult for the Midlands outfit.
Sawyers would be an excellent addition for Aston Villa and would certainly give Smith what he feels he needs in his side.
The 27-year-old would add some much-needed energy to the side and would also bring some creativity to the midfield which they have been lacking at times throughout their Championship campaign.
However, with Brentford likely to do whatever they can to keep him at Griffin Park, it remains to be seen if whether a move will be able to materialise in January.
