Aston Villa really have defied expectations in recent times in the Championship as they continue to push towards securing a play-off spot. Indeed, the Villans have won their last five league games and are unbeaten in six, so they’re in a commanding position at this moment in time.
Dean Smith’s January transfer window signings have been nothing short of sensational since rocking up at Villa Park, having played a monumental part in Villa’s promotion push.
And, it appears as if the Villa boss may already be weighing up a summer move.
Whats the news?
The Swansea City star has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Championship in the current campaign, so it comes as no surprise that Villa are taking an interest.
Dean Smith will need to move for a central defender in the summer transfer window with the likes of Kortney Hause and Tyrone Mings set to return to their parent clubs. Of course, promotion could play a part in securing either of them on a permanent deal or on loan again, but it would make more sense for Smith to weigh up his options.
Van der Hoorn, who is valued at £2.25 million (by Transfermarkt), has been solid at the back for the Swans in the current campaign and the fact that he could be available on a free in the summer makes him an even more attractive target.
But, all of the potential interest could come to nothing if he extends his deal.
Aston Villa fans, would you like to see Van der Hoorn join in the summer?
