Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has said the club has no intention of selling star midfielder John McGinn.
The Scot has been in superb form for the Villans this season and been integral in the midfield as the club looks to establish itself back as a Premier League club.
And according to a report from the Express and Star, Smith has no plans to see his star man leave the club any time soon.
“The big clubs can come calling but they’ll get a short, swift reply!” Smith said.
“He’s a player we want here at Aston Villa. His value shot up from the moment he stepped out onto the Villa Park pitch and showed just what a player he is. He has an unbelievable energy level and a big, big heart, but people don’t see the technical side of it as well – he’s got that in abundance.”
McGinn’s form this term has attracted admiring glances from the likes of Manchester United, with Sir Alex Ferguson calling (per the Sun) on his former club to land the Scotsman and it is unsurprising given the impact he is having on the team.
He’s already scored three goals and registered an assist, while his general impact in the middle of the park has been brilliant, having already made 30 accurate long balls and got 40% of his 30 shots on target. Indeed, those kinds of statistics have been crucial to Villa this season in the Premier League, making his £2.79m arrival (per Transfermarkt) from Hibernian in 2018 look a real steal.
Whether he can move to a club the size of Manchester United and excel how he is at Villa Park remains to be seen, but the talent is certainly on display.
Having recently signed a new deal with the Midlands giants, the Scotland international is likely to command a big fee if a team does come in for him.
Is Dean Smith getting the most out of Aston Villa's squad?
