Aston Villa have been looking to make a number of additions this winter as they look to strengthen their efforts to win promotion back to the Premier League.
Dean Smith’s side have already added Lovre Kalinic to their squad this January and Nemanja Radoja had looked on course to join them at Villa Park.
However, it appears the Championship outfit have suffered a setback in their pursuit of the Celta de Vigo midfielder.
It is understood that he has not met the international requirements that the English legislation states for players to join, whilst the transfer fee could also make a deal very complicated.
Radoja is keen to leave Celta de Vigo and Aston Villa were believed to have been in a great position to sign him.
However, work permit issues for the 25-year-old could see the Villans miss out on the Serbia international, which could lead to other clubs coming in for the player.
With the situation regarding the legal issues unlikely to improve, Smith will have to turn his attention elsewhere to look for midfield reinforcements.
