Albert Adomah has been released by Aston Villa ahead of their first campaign back in the Premier League, with Alan Hutton and Tommy Elphick also among those to leave Villa Park.

Adomah was an important player in ensuring Villa earned promotion to the Premier League, scoring four goals and assisting twice in 24 starts and 15 substitute appearances according to WhoScored.
This is not the first time the winger has helped a club reach England’s top table while being let go before being given a chance to join them there.
He was put in a similar position by Middlesbrough, where he helped them earn promotion but was sold after just two games in the top flight, making way for Adama Traoré.
This will arguably make his dismissal even harder to take, as many fans feel he deserves the chance to test himself against the best.
There is now likely to be a large number of Championship clubs clambering to secure Adomah’s signature when his pedigree in that division is considered.
Nevertheless, it is a big disappointment that he won’t be playing in the Premier League for Aston Villa this season, many fans will be hoping he gets his chance eventually.
A selection of Twitter reaction to Adomah being released, including posts from sympathetic Villa fans, can be seen below:
Why’d we release Adomah?

Absolutely gutted Adomah has gone because of the character he was. He didn’t have a great season after his injury but his presence will be a loss to the team

All top pros with great attitudes. Always put a shift for the villa. Hope they all get new clubs where they can get some game time #avfc
