Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to show their disbelief at their side’s performance against bottom of the table Preston yesterday.
Steve Bruce’s men were leading comfortably before a horror second half saw them go one goal down. A late Yannick Bolasie goal salvaged a point, but they had a chance to win the match with a late penalty.
Fans have shown their bemusement in the bizarre decision to elect midfielder Glenn Whelan to take the spot kick. The Republic of Ireland international has only scored one Championship goal in his past seven seasons, and was denied with his penalty yesterday. Villa supporters were in a frenzy, blaming Bruce for the decision to make Whelan take the kick.
Inevitably, fans are calling for Bruce to be sacked, with the club in a fairly poor position, having only won three of their opening 11 games.
This is what the fans had to say:
No, we don’t ‘take’ a point. That suggests that it is good enough. It is absolutely not good enough.
Bruce has to go. HE HAS TO GO. It is so outrageously obvious that he is he problem. Please, please, please get rid.#avfc

As a #wolves fan watching #AVFC tonight I actually feel for the #villa fans. I want all locals teams to be up there & do well but that 2nd half performance was an absolute shambles. Embarrassing, Spineless & gutless – shame to see a great club in that mess. Fans deserve better

change is not only inevitable, it’s essential. that has to be the final straw. enough is enough. save our season! #BruceOut

Bruce just leave. You got no support from the supporters anymore and game after game you are playing players out of position. With out squad we should be able to beat bottom of the league with 8 men. Leave, please

Bruce out and take the penalty maestro Whelan with you. Disgusting second half performance even before the sending off

Whelan!? That top-notch penalty taker. Who ever thought that was a good idea!?

Perhaps if Bruce hadn’t taken BOTH strikers off, AGAIN, we might…
Ah forget it, I’ll care again when Bruce is sacked. #AVFC
