Aston Villa: Fans debate ‘best ever’ performance from a Villa player

Many Aston Villa fans have debated the ‘best ever’ performance from a player during the club’s history via social media.
Villa fans have not had much to shout about this season having seen their side drop to 19th in the Premier League standings as things stand.
Concerns over a potential relegation to the Championship just 12 months after gaining promotion are present amongst supporters, whilst the outcome of the league season is yet to be decided due to the recent pandemic.
Supporters have since been engaging with each other via social media and a latest debate has got Claret and Blue fans looking back at some of the best individual performances they have seen by a player in a Villa shirt.
Former player and now Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson was among the names mentioned, whilst former midfielder Nigel Reo Coker was remembered for a pre-season performance against Inter Milan.
James Milner’s last game in a Villa shirt was also mentioned by fans, whilst Brazilian striker Wesley, who had been impressing this season until he suffered an injury, gained plaudits for his showing against Everton earlier in the current campaign.
Reacting to the question on the best performance fans have seen via Twitter account @VillaTilliDie, fans gave varied responses:

All 11 v Anderlecht semi final away. Despite all the off field issues have never seen Villa play so well albeit defensively. Have memory of Syd heading the ball of a Belgium foot as he was about to shoot. We could have played 12 hrs and not conceded that night.
