Aston Villa: Fans debate James Chester’s future at the club

Many Aston Villa fans have given their opinion on the quality and ability of central defender James Chester, who will leave the club on a free transfer this summer.
Having played an important part in the club’s Championship spell before their promotion to England’s top flight last term, Chester lost his place in the Villa starting XI. Limited playing time over the first six months of the season saw the central defender shipped out on loan to Stoke City. Since arriving at the bet365 stadium, the 31-year-old has performed well over his seven Championship games.
Will Jack Grealish remain at Aston Villa?
He will stay

No chance, he is off!

Due to return to Villa when his loan spell comes to an end at the end of the season, Chester will then leave the Premier League club due to his contract expiring on 30 June. Very few reports have come out regarding the Welshman’s future or whether Villa will offer him an extension on his deal, prompting a debate on social media over his ability and whether or not he is good enough to remain with the club.
Reacting to a tweet via @Total_Villa, some Villa fans shared their feelings on Chester’s ability…
Stoke City have played 7 Championship games since James Chester joined on loan.
Chester has started 6 of them.
It’s just my opinion but if he is this fit, I think he’s our next best centre back after Mings and shouldn’t be out on loan or have an expiring contract 🤷♂️ 🏴 #avfc pic.twitter.com/aYMMroTVwU

Due to his injuries he’s not at the pace of the PL now unfortunately

Why not . Every other CB has had a chance . A fit Chester is the best CB at the club imo

Him and Mings at the back would steady it out perfectly imo

We’ll need him next season

Great professional but don’t think he’s got the legs for the Prem anymore. Would say the Championship is now his level.

I thought we could have picked him when we played three at the back, with Mings & Konsa either side …
As one of two, I think he’d struggle in the PL.

The trouble is he won’t be first choice under smith, he wants games and not sat on the bench. He will sign for stoke permanently in my opinion. I wish him all the best, a true pro and gent
