Aston Villa: Fans disappointed at Frederic Guilbert’s performance against Leicester City

Aston Villa fans had a lot to be angry about after Monday’s poor performance in their 4-0 loss to Leicester, but many were fuming with the display of defender Frederic Guilbert.
The right-back has played in 23 games for the Villans this season, and it seems that many fans all believed that last night was one of the defenders worst performances for the club since he signed from Caen for £4.50 million in 2019 (Transfermarkt).
The defender had a torrid time against Harvey Barnes, with the creative midfielder getting in behind the full-back on multiple occasions, Barnes also scored two and was awarded Man of the Match (BBC Sport).
Guilbert lost possession 21 times during the fixture, and only 47% of his passes were accurate (Sofascore). Such stats are ones that Villa can not afford to be having at the moment as they continue to fight for safety in the Premier League. Dean Smith will be hoping for more when they play Chelsea at the weekend.
Here are what fans had to say on the defender’s performance:

Haven’t seen many worse defenders in my life than Guilbert. Truly awful player.

Guilbert was just awful. Poor positioning and decision making that cost us. Huge gap between midfield and striker. Jack isn’t as sharp and has an issue of some sort. #AVFC

Reina was shocking for that first goal but guilbert has been awful at fault in both goals. Should be glued to Barnes

@AVFCSupport poor performance last night. Particularly Guilbert. Ball watching all game. Lost Barnes for both his goals. Lost Barnes in the build up to the penalty. Poor defending against Vardy for his . Smith should have took him off. The right side was problem

Two mistakes by Guilbert nothing to do with being 2 v 1, first lets Barnes run straight past him when he originally was goal side and second the ball breaks and instead of getting into position he tries press a player he was going to never get near! Poor concentration, decisions
