Responding to a thread by Twitter account Villa Analytics, many Aston Villa supporters have been in full discussion over the ‘mad‘ statistical revelations concerning their side – especially given the fact they have conceded the most goals along with the most shots out of any team in the Premier League.
The Villans, who are currently languishing 19th in the Premier League table, have numerous difficult fixtures awaiting them this season – with home games against Wolves and Chelsea coming before a looming trip to table-toppers Liverpool at Anfield. Bearing this in mind, with a make or break month on the horizon, many Villa supporters have questioned their side’s tactical ability in keeping out attackers, responding to the revelation that their side are leaking the most shots and most goals in the Premier League.
Dean Smith’s outfit currently face a battle to stay in the top flight after gaining promotion last year. Here’s how Villa fans responded to the ‘very interesting‘ stats.
Very interesting. I believe it highlights we don’t press the opposition as a team. Everyone needs to do it and higher up the pitch. Not sure what we do in training but we don’t perform well when pressed by opposition and on the flip side we generally sit back & invite them on.

I’ve also felt there’s been a problem up top all season where we’ve had no outlet to get the ball up to to ease pressure on us .. Wesley was always to wide and to deep .. and Sammata not that type either

Is there a stat that shows how quickly our team gets pulled out of shape (eg number of passes by the opposition before they create a chance)? For me watching villa we have defenders individually playing fine, but as a team are so easy to create clear chances against

El ghazi and trez hate tracking back, that’s an area the exploit time and time again

I would like to know how often we give the ball away in opponents half that leads to a goal?

Will Aston Villa's defence cost them their Premier League status?
