Yesterday saw Dean Smith undergo his first press conference since signing a contract to become the new manager of his boyhood club after replacing Steve Bruce at Villa Park. The ex-Brentford man has got Richard O’Kelly and John Terry as his assistants and the supporters are more than confident in his abilities to make this season a success, even if they are only 15th after 12 games.

Things aren’t all negative for Aston Villa at the moment, even if they are currently looking at trying to deal with the aftermath of Steve Bruce’s tenure. Despite being 15th, the club are only four points behind 6th-placed Sheffield Wednesday and could easily turn things around. The Villains are also the joint 4th top goalscorers in the division, it’s just the 20 goals that they’ve shipped that’s proving to be the problem.
Next up for Aston Villa is a home clash with Graham Potter’s Swansea City. It’s a game that is certainly winnable for Smith in what will be a memorable first game at the club for the lifelong Aston Villa fans. The fans are already warming to the manager and after seeing him overachieve with both Walsall and Brentford it looks like just a matter of time until he pulls Villa back up to the promised land of the Premier League, which if he does manage, will make him a legend amongst the supporters.
