Before the results slipped and Steve Bruce was forced out of Villa Park, the ex-Birmingham City managed did pull off a masterstroke at Villa. He completed the loan signing of Yannick Bolasie from Everton and now, under Dean Smith with a more expansive style of football, the winger is thriving.

Dean Smith looks absolutely delighted to have Bolasie at his disposal and when asked about the winger he had nothing but praise for the Everton man, describing him as powerful, quick and a bag full of tricks on the Aston Villa website. The Congolese winger, having been eased back into action following an injury, will be determined to make the next step and complete 90 minutes for Aston Villa and this weekend’s clash with Derby could see that happen.
Derby County are a tough test for any side, but with Smith’s Villa looking to gain some form and get back to where they want to be there’s no reason why they can’t show up and take three points, especially if their 29-year-old live-wire winger is thrown in from the start and is up for it. Bolasie has two goals for the club in nine appearances this season, although with all of those coming from the bench he’s averaging a goal for every 88 minutes of action in England’s second tier, and if he starts on Saturday he’ll be desperate to hold good to that ratio.

The Villains will be loving life when Bolasie finally gets that start and will hope he can kick on and what he’s all about in the coming weeks as a starter under Dean Smith.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
