Aston Villa fans have had a lot of praise for Jack Grealish after scoring an important second goal in their 4-2 win over Birmingham City in the Second City Derby on Sunday.
Villa went behind in the 27th minute of the match at Villa Park, but quickly got themselves back into the contest, thanks to a goal by Jonathan Kodjia before Grealish gave them the lead moments later.
The 23-year-old was on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur in the summer but decided to stay put at Villa, and he has been an important figure in the team so far this season.
Grealish’s goal was naturally a special moment in the context of the club’s season, but it was also special in the context of his individual career.
The technically gifted playmaker failed to score in three previous appearances against Birmingham City, and he will be hoping to add to his tally when the sides go head-to-head later in the season.
Despite being criticised for going down all too easily at times in search of free-kicks and penalties, Villa supporters have defended Grealish, who dedicated his goal to his late brother by falling to the ground and bursting into tears when his header found the back of the net.
Here’s how some of the Villa supporters reacted to Grealish’s goal in the Second City derby:
@JackGrealish1 What an absolutely amazing feeling that must’ve been – so so pleased for him, well deserved
