Aston Villa fans on Twitter were elated when Orjan Nyland saved them at the death

yesterday could have gone so wrong for Aston Villa. The Villains travelled to Swansea City in search of all three points on Boxing Day to bounce back from defeat against Leeds United last weekend. It was a Conour Hourihane goal that won it for them, but the hero of the day was Orjan Nyland, who saved a 90th minute Wilfred Bony penalty at the death.
He’s had a brilliant game already, and now @OrjanHNyland1 saves a penalty in the dying stages! He leaps to his right to deny Wilfried Bony from the spot. Yes, Ørjan! #PartOfThePride pic.twitter.com/g47Aekje6O

To say that Nyland has been a man under pressure at Villa Park would be an understatement. The Norwegian goalkeeper has mostly struggled since Steve Bruce opted to bring him to the club over the summer, but yesterday saw the 28-year-old come into his own as he put in his most memorable performance in a Villa shirt to date, securing his side a valuable three points.
The win away at Graham Potter’s Swansea was enough to lift the Villains into the playoff places, and it’s fair to say that Dean Smith isn’t done yet. The ex-Brentford man will be dying to take his boyhood club back to the Premier League, and he’ll need a quality goalkeeper if he is to do that. That’s where Nyland comes in, and if his performances can stay at the level they were yesterday then there’s no doubting that he can become a promotion winning goalkeeper.

Brilliant play from a keeper under pressure. Nearly there, lads! Up the Villa!

Should stay and fight for his place! Seems like he could be a good keeper, Johnstone struggled at first for us but was superb in the end #utv

The travelling Villa fans were elated when Nyland kept out Bony’s penalty, and they’ll be desperate for more of the same from the Norwegian after his Swansea display.
