Aston Villa have been managerless since October 3rd when Steven Bruce was sacked less than 24 hours after his side drew 3-3 away at Preston. As per usual when a manager is sacked, all the media attention turns to who will be the next gaffer in place. Brendan Rodgers’ name is being thrown around in regards to the role, and speaking on BBC Sport, the Villa fans think he’s interested.
Rodgers: “Brilliant support base, big history, but I am sure they will know who they want to go in there. I have a great job here, a very exciting challenge this season and I am loving every second of it. So yeah, you can’t rule me out because I have never been asked.” [pa] #avfc

Rodgers is currently in his third season at Parkhead after winning Scottish football’s first-ever double-treble in his first two years. Whatever happens from here with Rodgers, the Hoops will remember him as the man who delivered back-to-back trebles and they’ll be keen to keep him at the club, however, judging by his comments, he could have his head turned if the likes of Nassef Sawiris and the Aston Villa board come knocking.
Aston Villa are a huge club and for them to be sitting 15th in the Championship isn’t a fair reflection of the size of the club. When they look for their new gaffer it’s likely that they’ll want a big name who has experience in the Championship and Brendan Rodgers fits the bill. The Northern Irishman got Swansea promoted in the 2010/11 season via the playoffs in his first season at the club and if he can repeat the same success at Villa Park then the fans would take to him pretty quickly.

“You can’t rule me out…” urm so he hasn’t ruled himself out.

‘Because I haven’t been asked’ – sounds to me like he wants to be asked

‘Rule me out because I have never been asked’ hints at if we did make an approach he would come

I didn’t think “you can’t rule me out” meant “you can rule me out”?!?!?!

The Villa fans are intrigued by Rodgers’ comments and would be keen to see what happens if their club tables him an offer.
