Aston Villa suffered a disappointing defeat against local rivals Wolves at Molineux on Sunday, losing the game 2-1 (via BBC Sport).
Goals from Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez had Nuno Espirito Santo’s side 2-0 up, with Trezeguet pulling one back for the Villans but ultimately it was just a consolation goal.
Manager Dean Smith was forced to shuffle his pack a little due to injury. The likes of Jack Grealish, Tom Heaton and Bjorn Engels were all missing for Villa, which gave opportunities to some other players in their squad.
One of those was Ezri Konsa, who partnered Tyrone Mings in the heart of defence in place of Engels.
It was the centre-back’s first league start for the club since arriving from Brentford in the summer, with his only other appearance being a 15-minute cameo against Norwich City from the bench (Transfermarkt).
Despite Villa losing the game and conceding two goals, plenty of their supporters were still impressed with how Konsa played at Molineux with many suggesting that he was one of few positives on the afternoon. Indeed, as per WhoScored, the former Brentford ace won the second-highest number of aerial duels (3), only losing out to sole striker, Wesley.
In fact, he made as many interceptions and clearances as much-celebrated England international teammate, Mings, too.
Here is what some have been saying about the defender on Twitter…
