Several Aston Villa fans are puzzled by the first-team guarantee Pepe Reina has reportedly been given ahead of his imminent move to the club.
According to Sky Sports Italia (via Sport Witness), the Villans have a deal in place to bring the Spaniard to Villa Park on loan from AC Milan. This comes after the long-term injury to first-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton. Despite that, it has been reported that Reina still needed convincing.
Sky Sports Italia, however, claim that problem was solved once Reina was guaranteed first-team football. Such a development, though, has left some Villa supporters asking plenty of questions. Orjan Nyland, who has deputised for the injured Heaton, has done a good job between the sticks (before the Manchester City game anyway!), which is why a portion of fans cannot accept the above.
In Villa’s recent 1-1 draw with Leicester City in the Carabao Cup, the 29-year-old earned a 7.6 match rating on WhoScored after managing to make five saves. Taking such a performance into account, some quite clearly feel Nyland is being overlooked amid Dean Smith’s goalkeeper dilemma.
Take a look at what some Villa supporters had to say below…
Surely just back up. He's barely played for Milan. Nyland had been very good this season so far when played

Can’t help but think we are wasting resources on signing #Reina even on loan.
He’s hardly played much in #Italy & I honestly think Nyland deserves his chance.
He’s performed well every time he’s been called upon this season.

Thats just stupid, respect to the guy but he is 37 now and hardly played in 2 years 🙁 Huge gamble hope I am proven wrong.

Reina’s played one game this season which says his no more than back up player . Nyland was excellent and looks ready for his chance

Will be a bad move if he drops Nyland

What does this say to Nyland he’s been great so wrong if it is true

Who should be Villa's No.1 in Heaton's absence?
