A lot of Aston Villa fans are elated to see the news (per the club’s official website) that John McGinn has returned to full training following his injury.
The Scottish central midfielder played 18 times for the club this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists and arguably took some pressure away from captain Jack Grealish when he was in the side, given that he’s second in most attacking metrics this season per WhoScored.
However, since his ankle injury, which has seen him missed the last ten Premier League games, the side have been heavily reliant on Grealish, and being in such a situation has only seen them win three in ten.
McGinn arrived from Hibernian in August 2018 for £2.79 million (Transfermarkt) and was vital in Villa’s promotion push last season, which saw them advance to England’s top flight via the playoffs.
Only time will tell us whether he will be able to appear back in the starting eleven to help Villa’s survival hopes, but the fact he is back training is a good morale boost for both fans and his teammates.
