Aston Villa: Fans react to footage of Christian Benteke’s goal against Liverpool - Aston Villa

When Aston Villa decided to post some archive footage of their former striker Christian Benteke on Twitter, a number of the club’s faithful were left leaving their thoughts on him.

The clip shows the Belgian forward driving forward with the ball after it was won in midfield and smashing it past Pepe Reina to give the Villans a 3-0 lead in a match they would eventually win 3-1 back in December 2012.

Paul Lambert, who was the manager at the time, was left waxing lyrical over Benteke’s performance and describe the display as ‘sensational’ (as per BBC).

However, those days have been incredibly few and far between for the big striker since then though, despite having earned a move to Anfield and also Selhurst Park with Crystal Palace, where he finds himself today.

Since leaving Aston Villa, the 29-year-old has only managed to find the back of the net 32 times in 153 appearances across all competitions – with 15 of those being scored for The Eagles in his debut season with them in the Premier League (as per TransferMarkt).

Indeed, fans were left leaving their thoughts on the video clip with many claiming that they had missed Benteke as one described him as a ‘beast’.

Here are just some of the reactions from the Aston Villa faithful…
