Aston Villa fans react to Mile Jedinak’s international retirement

Aston Villa supporters have been reasonably quiet in recent times after seeing their side fail to get back to winning ways in the Championship on Friday night.

Steve Bruce’s men went into their clash with Bristol City at Ashton Gate off the back of a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday in their preceding league encounter, thus meaning they had won just one of their last seven league games prior to Friday night. And it is now only one win in eight for Bruce’s side after drawing 1-1 with Lee Johnson’s Robins, with Josh Brownhill’s opener for the hosts cancelled out by Birkir Bjarnason’s strike on the stroke of half time to preserve a point for the Villans.

Thus, there have been many frustrated Villa fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by the recent news that midfielder Mile Jedinak has retired from international football.

The 34-year-old made the move to Villa Park back in 2016 and has since featured 71 times for the Midlands giants, nine of which coming in the Championship this season in their sluggish start to the campaign.

Yet the midfielder has been an outstanding servant to Australia in the last decade in earning 79 caps for his country, in which time he scored 20 goals, including two at this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

However, the Villa star has recently called time on his international career, an announcement which stimulated quite a response from Villans supporters on Twitter, with plenty of them saying the same thing regarding the 34-year-old’s decision, namely that they now want him to retire from playing at centre back having played there for Bruce’s side on eight occasions this term…
