Plenty of Aston Villa fans have reacted to a comment made by Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford, who said he was ’embarrassed’ about his actions after the meeting between them last season.
The rivalry between Villa and Leeds has significantly developed over the last few seasons, having both been involved in a Championship fixture last year which ended in dramatic circumstances.
During the tie, Claret and Blue striker Jonathan Kodjia went down injured during an attack, but rather than kick the ball out of play, Tyler Roberts’ pass found Mateusz Klich, who then ran at the Villa defence and scored past Jed Steer.
After a melee, involving the majority of both squads, Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa ordered his team to let Villa score, seeing Albert Adomah run the ball into the back of the net.
During the melee, Bamford was involved in a heated exchange with Anwar El Ghazi, who was sent off for an apparent push on the Leeds striker.
Speaking on the game and the incident, Bamford admitted that he felt embarrassed over the incident as there was clearly no contact from El Ghazi to make the 26-year-old Leeds man go to ground.
