Aston Villa got back to winning ways in the Premier League, beating Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor on New Year’s Day.
That win, temporarily, lifted them out of the relegation zone and into 16th, after a string of poor results saw them drop into the bottom three.
First-half goals from Wesley and Jack Grealish were enough to give Dean Smith’s men the three points, and lift some of the growing pressure on the manager.
Their performance was boosted by the return of England international centre-back Tyrone Mings.
The 26-year-old missed their last five games after sustaining an injury in the 4-1 loss to Leicester at Villa Park.
His absence was felt, as Villa conceded three to relegation rivals Southampton and Watford.
Mings’ return comes at the perfect time, with Villa facing Manchester City and Leicester City, before clashing with the Foxes in the EFL Cup semi-final in January.
