Aston Villa’s deadline day is shaping up to be an active one with reports linking them with incoming and outgoing transfers.
Indeed, reports concerning a potential loan deal for Tammy Abraham are beginning to intensify, but with just hours remaining before the deadline it’s certainly touch and go for Steve Bruce in his pursuit.
But Villa are also set to sanction a departure before the close of play with Tommy Elphick set for a medical at Hull City ahead of a season-long loan deal according to Sky Sports.
Villa’s decision to sanction a loan deal for a centre-back when their options are relatively sparse has aroused plenty of concern amongst the supporters, but a handful of fans believe that Elphick’s loan deal suggests a new centre-back could be on his way to Villa Park.
According to a report published by Birmingham Live during the early hours of the morning, Villa are leading the race to sign 20-year-old Harold Moukoudi from Le Havre.
The reported signing of the French centre-back perhaps suggests that a domino effect could be taking place with his arrival paving the way for Elphick’s deparute.
That’s certainly what some of the supporters seem to think, but with nothing official to report regarding Moukoudi’s arrival as of yet there are some supporters who are beginning to criticise Bruce’s decision to offload Elphick to a Championship rival.
The situation should be much clearer by the end of the day but it’s fair to say that Bruce will have plenty of explaining to do to disgruntled Villa fans if no replacement arrives to fill the void left by Elphick.
Here’s what the supporters on Twitter have had to say in response to Elphick reports…
Moukoudi must be coming, would be madness not bringing someone in.

What a joke this is. We better have a cb coming in if this is the case.

Strange decision this. Can only imagine @TommyElph4 is desperate to play every week and we can’t offer him that. To ship out someone like Elphick when we are currently playing Jedinak there is crazy. Very good player, and great pro. Good luck Tommy. #AVFC

So the positions that Bruce wants to sign players for because we lack depth in them he’s then letting players leave in those positions

Not been given much of a chance at villa despite being professional at all times @TommyElph4 best of luck for the season if this goes through
