Loads of Aston Villa fans have been remembering an iconic goal from former star Lee Hendrie, after the club’s official account tweeted a video of his spectacular strike against Everton at Goodison Park in 2004.
You can say what you like about the Claret and Blue academy graduate, but the Englishman produced some sensational goals throughout his career. Hendrie is best known for scoring from long-range, and this memorable example definitely fits the bracket.
The left midfielder picked up a loose header from Juan Pablo Angel, before letting rip with an absolute rocket past the Blues’ goalkeeper Martyn from 25 yards out into the back of the net (BBC Sport).
Hendrie made 288 appearances for the Lions, netting 29 goals and providing 4 assists, before being loaned out to Stoke City, and eventually leaving Villa Park for Sheffield United in the summer of 2007 on a free transfer.
Regardless, it is fair to say plenty of Villans still have fond memories of the 42-year-old, with a couple of supporters describing the footage as “cracking” and a “great goal,” while another simply added he was a “class player.”
