Aston Villa: Fans suggest Ashley Young is club’s best winger of the decade

Several Aston Villa fans have been voting for who they believe has been the best winger at the club over the last decade.

Birmingham Mail journalist Mat Kendrick is putting together a team of the decade and has posted on his Twitter account asking Villa supporters to suggest wingers for the 11.

Whilst there was the odd vote for the likes of Stewart Downing, Robert Snodgrass and Aleksandar Tonev, the vast majority went for Ashley Young.

The 34-year-old spent four years at Villa Park between 2007-11 (Transfermarkt) and was one of their top performers during his stay.

Indeed, he managed to score 37 goals and provide 59 assists in his 190 appearances for the West Midlands outfit (Transfermarkt) and played for them in the League Cup final in the 2009/10 season (BBC Sport).

Young ultimately ended up leaving Villa to move to Manchester United as a result of his good performances, and he remains at Old Trafford to this date.

However, despite leaving for pastures new, it seems that most supporters still hold him in high regard and believe that he was a cut above any other winger that has represented them since 2010…

Aston Villa fans, do you agree that Ashley Young has been the club’s best winger since 2010? Or do you think another player has been better? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
