The club-record signing of Wesley Moraes could help Aston Villa fans deal with Tammy Abraham’s exit though it doesn’t look as if the Midlands giants are stopping there when it comes to looking for strikers.

The man in question is Neal Maupay. The Brentford star Dean Smith worked with before making the switch from Griffin Park to Villa Park scored an impressive 25 goals and registered a further eight assists last season for the Bees. Now, according to Alan Nixon, the Villans are leading the race to sign him.
Should the Villans be able to bring in the Frenchman it would be his first time plying his trade in the top flight of the English footballing pyramid. Still, given how the 22-year-old starred under the tutelage of Smith, for whom he scored 23 goals in 58 games, it’s clear the two have an understanding.
Replacing Abraham will be a big job for the striker or strikers who rock up at Villa Park this summer. Indeed, last season saw the on-loan Chelsea man bag 25 goals, so replacing such a potent outlet is obviously important.

Smith at Villa seems to have a clear idea of who he wants and what they are prepared to pay – which is a good thing. Brentford clearly feeling pressure from Maupay regarding a move – or they would still be asking for the moon.
