Aston Villa: Fans torn over Colombian striker & European Cup winner in debate - Aston Villa

Aston Villa fans have attempted to select the club’s best ever number nine with many opting to choose Juan Pablo Angel or Peter Withe.

Football is currently at a standstill due to the ongoing pandemic, leaving Villa fans nervously anticipating the Premier League’s return as their side continue to sit in the relegation zone.

With the postponement of fixtures, fans have been engaging about football via social media, and Villa fans have now been largely taking part in a latest debate on who is the club’s best ever number nine.

Many opted to go with former Colombian striker Angel, who spent seven seasons at Villa Park where he netted an impressive 62 goals in 205 games.

Leaving Villa in 2007, Angel would go on to play for New York Red Bulls, LA Galaxy and Chivas USA, before retiring at Atletico Nacional in his homeland.

Whilst many voted for Angel, European Cup winner with the club Withe was also mentioned.

Withe spent five years with Villa during his playing career and played a massive part in the club’s European Cup success in 1982, scoring the all-important goal in a 1-0 win over Bayern Munich in the final.

Whilst Angel and Withe were the names most mentioned, other strikers such as Bosko Balaban and Dean Saunders were mentioned and below are just some the responses gained from the debate:
