Several Aston Villa fans are not convinced by Rio Ave striker Mehdi Taremi amid speculation that the club are looking to sign him this month.
The Villans have already signed Mbwana Samatta following the serious injury to Wesley. However, according to Sky Sports, they could now turn their attention to the Iran international as Dean Smith looks for more firepower to keep his side up.
For some Villa fans, though, Taremi is not the kind of name the Premier League outfit should be looking at, with a couple supporters suggesting that a more proven centre-forward is needed. The 27-year-old is currently playing in the Portuguese top flight, but before that his only other experience has come in countries such as Qatar and Iran.
That being said, at 6’2″, he looks to be the same profile of No.9 as Wesley (6’3″), so you can understand Smith’s thinking in that regard — attempting to bring in another target man that the likes of Jack Grealish and Anwar El Ghazi can play off.
You can have a look at what fans have been saying about the speculation below, with one supporter describing Taremi as a “total unknown”…
Can you phone Jesus Pitarch and tell him Premiership experience would help

We could use a ‘risk free’ striker alongside Samagoal. Where we know what we will get even if it isn’t great. But even those aren’t easy to find… Don’t recall seeing this lad play outside of some vague recollection of him doing well for Iran against Spain. So

Never heard of him. Nor the club he plays for. Speaks volumes really.
