Aston Villa: Fans want club to sign Olivier Giroud in January transfer window - Aston Villa

Several Aston Villa supporters would like to see the club sign French international striker Olivier Giroud in the January transfer window.

According to a report from the Express, the Chelsea forward could leave Stamford Bridge in a couple of months’ time with the club thought to only want a fee of £5 million for him.

Is Wesley an upgrade on Tammy Abraham?

Yes

Yes

No

No

He has fallen behind both Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi in the pecking order in west London and has started just two games in all competitions this term, both of which came back in August (Transfermarkt).

With Frank Lampard barely using the World Cup winner with 94 caps, he could be deemed surplus to requirements at the club. And rather than allowing him to walk away on a free transfer in the summer, it seems they would rather try and get a fee for him in January.

There are likely to be plenty of clubs interested in the experienced front man. Indeed, the Express suggests that Inter Milan is one potential destination for him.

However, quite a few Villa supporters would like him to stay in the Premier League with their club.

The West Midlands side are quite light up front. Wesley is their first choice striker and has started all 12 matches so far (Transfermarkt), but it is thought that second choice Jonathan Kodjia could leave in January.

That would mean that there is certainly space for another striker in the squad, and some fans think that Giroud would be the perfect player to fill the void…
