Aston Villa: Fans want Orjan Nyland to be given a chance - Aston Villa

Many Aston Villa fans have opted to select Orjan Nyland as the first-choice keeper over Pepe Reina in a latest social media debate.

An injury to usual number one keeper Tom Heaton forced Villa boss Dean Smith into making a move for former Liverpool stopper Reina in the January transfer window.

Having spent time in the Italian league with AC Milan prior to this move to Villa Park, Reina arrived with a wealth of experience, having also had success at Anfield and with the Spanish national side during his career.

However, poor form and some mistakes saw him have little impact on the club’s Premier League performances, prompting Smith to hand 29-year-old Nyland a chance in their League Cup campaign, including in the final (Transfermarkt).

Reina spoke publicly about the chances of a permanent move to Villa earlier this week, claiming he would be returning to the Serie A.

Those comments have prompted several social media debates, and a latest one has Villa fans choosing who they would start in goal when football returns from the recent postponement due to the pandemic.

Reacting to Twitter account @AVFC_News’ question, Villa fans opted to select Nyland over Reina…
