Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping their side can make it to Wembley Stadium and get promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.
Regardless of whether they are promoted or remain in the second tier, many of the locals in the bar will feel that manager Steve Bruce will need to add a number of players to his squad this summer, and reports are suggesting they will look at one of the relegated side’s midfielders.
And that’s because the The Sun are reporting that the Villa Park outfit are set to join in the race to sign Sunderland’s George Honeyman following an impressive season, despite the Black Cats suffering their second demotion in as many years.
The 23-year-old is wanted by a number of clubs in the Championship and is thought to be available on a cut-price deal as he has just one-year remaining on his present deal.
Landlord’s Verdict: The Villa fans in the Tavern will be looking for the club to make movements in the transfer market, although a number of fans will not be sure if a midfielder is what is required. The club’s current stars didn’t score a huge amount of goals, and punters will feel that a reliable striker should be at the top of their agenda.
However, the locals in the bar will be more focused on their immediate future as they prepare to face Middlesbrough for a place in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
