Aston Villa are still in with a good chance of securing a play-off spot in the current campaign, as they currently sit four points behind Derby County at this moment in time.
One thing that will need to change if the Villains are to make anything out of the second half of the season is consistency, with only one win in their last five Championship fixtures.
Interestingly, it looks as if Dean Smith has a possible addition in his sights, as according Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa are interested in Stoke City’s Moritz Bauer.
Aston Villa have lacked defensive cover up until this point in the current campaign, with Neil Taylor struggling to impress at left-back, so bringing in a full-back makes perfect sense.
However, the Austrian international has already been linked with a move to Midlands rivals Wolves this month.
Bauer has been a regular feature at Stoke since Nathan Jones took charge, but a move to play-off chasing Villa would surely be an upgrade on life at the bet365 Stadium, with a play-off place currently out of the Potters’ sights.
Moritz Bauer is arguably one of the best full-backs in the Championship, but he just wasn’t able to work his way into Gary Rowett’s plans during the first half of the season.
Indeed, signing a full-back must be one of the biggest priorities for the Midlands club. And, Bauer would be the perfect man for the job as he’s able to provide plenty of experience and quality on either flank.
