John McGinn scored his first-ever goal for Scotland 10 minutes into their qualifier against Russia on Friday evening.
While the occasion will have been tainted for him by the fact the Scots eventually succumbed to Russian pressure and lost 2-1, this moment left many Aston Villa fans chuffed:

The ball bounced off Guilherme’s arm from a Ryan Fraser cross and landed at McGinn’s feet, with the 24-year-old taking one touch to stop the ball in its path before hitting into the net.
The emphatic celebration with his arms out wide is something Villa fans have become fairly accustomed to, since the Scotsman joined their club from Hibernian in the summer of 2018, as he has managed a total of eight goals in 48 appearances so far in a Villa shirt, as per Transfermarkt.
Despite the joy surrounding McGinn’s goal, this result puts his country in a tough position regarding qualification for Euro 2020, as they are six points behind second-placed Russia with five games left to play.
