Just seven months after leading Aston Villa to promotion back to the Premier League, a number of the club’s fans are now calling for manager Dean Smith to be sacked.
In a manner reminiscent of Fulham a year previously, Smith followed up Championship play-off success by investing heavily in his squad over the summer, signing 12 players for a combined £133.74m (according to TransferMarkt) – and Fulham were relegated last season.
Despite advancing to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup this week, Villa’s Premier League form has been alarming, having now lost four consecutive top flight matches and seven of their last 10 games in the division (as per TransferMarkt).
The Villans’ next two league matches are against the only two teams beneath them in the table, Norwich and Watford, and as they go into those crunch fixtures in such poor form, these fans have lost faith in Smith:
£130m for this. Serious questions to be asked of Smith

Dean Smith out. Imagine not making ANY changes at half-time. Doesn’t know what he’s doing. No strikers, no passion. Nothing.

Smith will get sacked soon.

Can’t blame no one but Smith now, tactically has got it so wrong in the past few games. He makes the calls. His responsibility.
