Aston Villa will be eagerly awaiting the re-opening of the transfer window, as they bid to improve their team in hope of achieving promotion.
With consistency being their biggest issue, Villa need to bring in some players that are ready for a tremendous challenge but one if it comes off, with land the Villans in the Premier League.
Defensively Aston Villa have had big problems this season, which is due to injuries and their inability to acquire during the summer.
That must be changed during the January transfer window as it’s vital recruitment is right.
A player who would walk into Aston Villa and improve their current options is Southampton’s Jack Stephens.
Stephens, (who is valued at £7.2 million on Transfermarkt) has made just seven starts in the Premier League this season, as Southampton have surprisingly stuck with the likes of Vestergaard and Hoedt despite conceding 33 goals in 18 games.
The Englishman plays centre-back but can also be utilised as a right-back as well. He would predominately be used as a centre-back with the need for a player in that position far greater, plus Stephens is far more suited to that role.
He has good leadership skills and more importantly, the ability to defend well and help reserve a clean-sheet for his team.
It’s no coincidence that in his seven starts, Stephens has helped acquire three clean-sheets, whereas in the other nine he didn’t play, Southampton kept just one.
It’s not often a talented player isn’t used but Aston Villa could take advantage of Stephens’ situation at Southampton are try and tempt him down to the Championship, in order to obtain regular football.
