Aston Villa goalkeeper Orjan Nyland has revealed how long he believes first choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton will be out for.
The 29-year-old has told media in Norway that the former Burnley shot-stopper is expected to be out of action for between “two to three weeks” (via Birmingham Mail).
Villa are currently enduring something of an injury crisis when it comes to their goalkeepers.
Heaton has been their regular first choice this season, starting 11 times in the Premier League (Transfermarkt). But he was absent from their 2-1 defeat against Wolves last time out and has also withdrawn from the England squad.
Be honest, should Dean Smith be doing better with Aston Villa's squad?
No, he's about par
Jed Steer replaced him in the starting line-up at Molineux, but he lasted just eight minutes before coming off with an injury and being replaced by Nyland.
The Norwegian has been discussing the possibility of staking his claim for the number one jersey at Villa Park and, in doing so, he let slip how long he thinks Heaton will be unavailable for, suggesting it will be two to three weeks.
Losing Heaton as well as Steer is a major blow to Villa, who could now spend a couple of weeks without either of their first choice goalkeepers.
Fortunately for them, they do have an experienced third choice in Nyland, and he appears ready to step into the breach and try and convince Dean Smith that he could be their number one.
He certainly seems confident of doing so. Indeed, he is quoted as saying that he thinks he is a Premier League standard goalkeeper (Birmingham Mail).
Aston Villa fans, do you think that Orjan Nyland is good enough to start in the Premier League with Tom Heaton and Jed Steer currently injured? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
