Marvelous Nakamba is set to complete his medical ahead of a move to Aston Villa, according to The Birmingham Mail.
The Club Brugge midfielder had gone AWOL to try to force the move, as he refused to turn up to training with the Belgian club, after returning from competing at the African Cup of Nations with Zimbabwe.
He is now set to make a move worth £11 million once the medical is complete, becoming Villa’s 11th signing of the summer.
His tackling is cited as very strong on WhoScored, while his other strengths are passing, concentration and ball interception.
These traits will be useful for Aston Villa, as the level of protection he provides will help their newly composed backline to settle into Premier League life without being as exposed.
It also means that Conor Hourihane, who was often the deepest of Villa’s three midfielders last season, would be able to play higher up the pitch when he is on the field – this would help enhance his attacking influence, which is the main part of his game, as highlighted by the fact he still managed to score eight and assist 11 goals last season.
Both Aston Villa and Nakamba will be happy to see this deal completed considering how long it seems to have lasted, as well as the lengths the player has gone to in order to ensure it goes through.
If his stats are anything to go by, he certainly has the ingredients to be a successful holding midfielder at an Aston Villa team which should be exciting next season, considering the transfers they have made this summer.
