Sky Sports pundit and former Celtic and Arsenal striker Charlie Nicholas has criticised Aston Villa’s errors this season, saying that is a big reason as to why the club is currently 19th in the Premier League.
The club celebrated getting into England’s top flight as they beat Derby County in the play-off final last season but this season has been very bleak as the club have won seven, drawn four and lost seventeen.
When talking to Sky Sports via HITC, Nicholas said, “Aston Villa are not physical enough and they do not rough people up. They accept the possession and they make mistakes.
Until they solve that and disrupt the game, then this team is going down. They need to understand that side of things. It is when they do not have the ball that the issue is evident. The mistakes keep coming.”
It is hard to disagree with the pundit here, as Villa’s defensive stats were ranked and shown on Sky Sports, which one fan tweeted out. The stats show that the club are ranked 19th and 20th for all the stats shown which included errors leading to goals, clean sheets and shots faced.
There are ten games left and if the Villans want to give themselves any chance of surviving the drop, they are going to have to cut out their mistakes and not be so fearful of the remaining teams they come up against.
