Aston Villa is chasing promotion to the Premier League and their fans in the Transfer Tavern will be interested to hear that is not the only thing the club is chasing this summer.
The Villans are sitting in a playoff spot and still hold a slim chance of going up via an automatic spot, although they would need a number of results to go in their favour for that to happen. Steve Bruce’s side has been competing well in the Championship and it looks as though they are about to battle with others for the signing of a highly-rated youngster.
According to reports in West London Sport, Aston Villa is set to go against the likes of Brentford, Swansea and AFC Bournemouth for versatile defender Tom James. The Yeovil youngster has been impressing for the League Two outfit which has seen a number of clubs take note.
The 21-year-old can play anywhere across the back, although he has mostly been utilised as a right-back and the Villa Park side are considering to make a move for the former Cardiff City and Wales Under-19 international.
The Villa locals in the Tavern will be watching with interest as the club look to strengthen their options in defence and will be keen to see where James would fit in. The back line is starting to become old, with the likes of John Terry, Chris Samba and James Chester and the youngster would add some valuable freshness to the squad.
