Aston Villa respond to managerial criticism with history lesson

This went down well amongst the Aston Villa fans in the Football Transfer Tavern…

The Aston Villa fans in the Tavern haven’t had much to smile about over the last few weeks.

A poor start to life in the Championship has left the Villains in-attendence sweating on their future, especially after the recent departure of manager Roberto Di Matteo.

It would come as no surprise then to see that Villa are much more happy to discuss their past, rather than their present – as evidenced by a recent Twitter spat that the club have had with Virgin Trains.

The Richard Branson-owned company recently uploaded a photo of an empty train, alongside the caption: “With Roberto Di Matteo leaving, the next batch of potential #AVFC managers have just left for Birmingham New Street…”.

The empty train, of course, signalling that nobody would be interested in the job.

Not to be out done however, Aston Villa quickly fired back with some fire of their own…

In response to the image, Villa tweeted: “Would our managerial candidates actually get here for interviews on time if they arrived via VirginTrains?”. Train delays are a frequent problem for our punters en route to their weekend fixtures; so this one drew up quite a cheer in the Tavern.

Not stopping there, Villa also reminded Virgin Trains of how big the club is by listing all of their major accolades – indicating that a manager would jump at the chance to manage such a high profile team.

Well! Aston Villa are starting to sound a little bit like the Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern with this. Far too much focus on the past, rather than the present!

Our landlord thinks that the club need to forget what has happened in the past, and he has reminded the Villa faithful that they are in a relegation battle at the moment!

Aston Villa is no longer the attractive proposition that it once was…
