Aston Villa appear to have finally wielded the axe on the career of one man at the club.
According to a statement released on the club’s official website, the Villans have confirmed that they have terminated Steve Bruce’s contract with immediate effect and will start their look for a new manager.
Assistants Colin Calderwood, Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence and Gary Walsh have also had their contracts cancelled with the club as they look to for a fresh start.
Villa’s late draw against Preston North End appeared to be too much for the board to handle and they have decided to act upon it.
Bruce managed to oversee just one win in his last ten matches, across all competitions, leaving a number of angry fans calling for him to depart, with one throwing a cabbage at him in Tuesday night’s draw.
The Villa Park outfit will now be looking ahead and will be preparing for their away trip to the capital on Saturday when they meet Millwall in the Championship.
The writing had been on the wall surrounding Bruce and his future and it does not come as a real surprise to see him depart.
The pressure from the fans was starting to become too much and the draw against Preston, who are rock-bottom, certainly would have not helped his case, considering the farcical events that happened on the field.
Villa will now look to find a suitable replacement and try and save their season as much as they can, although it remains to be seen who they have lined up for the position if anyone at all at the moment.
