Our Aston Villa fans here in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait for their side to get going this season as they are expecting a real charge at the top of the league.
Indeed, things are finally looking stable at the club after a few years of turmoil and many of our local Villa punters are hoping for a return to the Premier League.
Whether or not they can do that, though, remains to be seen but it appears as though Nathan Baker is not going to be a part of things this season – as per The Birmingham Mail.
Indeed, they are reporting that the defender is close to a move to Bristol City – providing he passes a medical – with him spending a season on loan there in 2015/16.
For sure, then, he’s likely been tempted by the prospect of more first team football as the centre-half spots look well taken by John Terry and James Chester at the moment.
This one could be quite fast moving, then, and our landlord has decided to have his say on things ahead of Baker’s swapping of the West Midlands for the West of England.
This is a move that makes sense for all involved.
Baker is definitely good enough to play in the Championship and in signing for the Robins he’ll become one of their most important players as they look to stay up once again in the second tier.
Indeed, it also gives Villa a bit of money and the chance to bring in another centre-back of better quality – one that can challenge Terry and Chester for a spot.
For sure, then, this gets a big thumbs up.
