Aston Villa have continued their turbulent start to the season but they remain in hope that the management of Dean Smith, alongside assistant John Terry, can push them towards promotion.
With a solid set of players, it is a surprise to many to see Aston Villa struggling but ever since the summer, the club has endured some problems.
That could be quickly forgotten if they start performing on the pitch like they’re capable of.
There has to be a number of improvements quickly for the Villans, the main being finding another defender in the January transfer window.
Squad depth is a very important thing for a Championship team to have and right now Villa don’t have it. They would though, if they turn to West Ham and try and nab Reece Oxford.
Oxford, who is valued at £4.5 million on Transfermarkt, is another shining example of a failed wondered but then you realise he is still just 19 and with plenty of years ahead, Aston Villa can be the side to turn his fortunes around.
The Englishman has been a regular for West Ham’s U23 side, playing eight games and even scoring twice. He leads his team demandingly from the back and wears the captains armband, signalling his great characteristics as a leader and a player.
His demise has been fast as many tend to think back to Oxford’s debut in claret and blue when he was just 16. He was man of the match in the Hammers 2-0 win at Arsenal, as he went on to mark Mesut Ozil out of the game.
There is no reason as to why Oxford couldn’t star again and Aston Villa would be lucky if they bring out the best in the 19-year-old.
